We would like to help make your storage at RT. 22 Self-Storage run smoothly. The following are helpful tips for storage.
1. Large appliances: Moisture and mildew will damage your valuables if your refrigerator or freezer is not clean and dry. Leave door slightly ajar. Some goods can be stored in appliances and stacked on top of them.
2. Lawn mowers and Snow blowers: Drain gasoline and oil from all small engines
3. Furniture and Tables: Disassemble beds, tables, lamps, desks, etc. to conserve storage space.
Wrap with furniture pads to protect from scratches and soil.
Wrap the legs with packing paper and tape to corresponding item.
Place plastic or pallet between floor and furniture.
Stack chairs seat-to-seat with cloth or paper separating them.
4. Breakables: Dishes and glassware, etc.
Boxes should have a layer of padding on the top and bottom, and each item should be wrapped.
Fill all pockets with padding.
LABEL PROPERLY. Place on top of other packages or in safe place ex. refrigerator or dresser drawer.
Mirrors and pictures-large works should be stored in specially designated boxes. Smaller pictures can be wrapped in bubble wrap or packing paper
5. Mattresses: Protect mattresses and furniture with specially designated plastic wrap.
6. Books and Valuable Papers: Place books flat and fill all empty spaces. Avoid overfilling, books are heavy. Put boxes of books and papers on pallets to prevent moisture absorption. File boxes are a good way to store papers.
7. Photos: Do not store irreplaceable photos. Negatives take up little space so consider keeping them with you. If you choose to store photos-store flat packed tight (top to bottom) so edges wont curl.
8. Clothing, Blankets & Draperies: Clean all fabrics and pack in wardrobe boxes. Store your clothing and blankets on hangers, which save the shape of the garments.
9. Metals: Wipe a few drops of oil on tools and bikes as a rust protector.
10. How to organize your storage room
Leave a few inches of space between your items and the wall for best ventilation.
Place items that you won't need in the storage room first, place those items you may need to retrieve toward the front, for easy access.
Stand sofas and mattresses on end on a pallet and/or a plastic sheet.
Stack boxes on dressers and use drawers to store delicate items.
Place heavy items on the bottom and lighter items on top.
